Pooja Dargan

Pooja Dargan Ahrens is a boutique actor based in Singapore. She is of Indian ethnicity (and of Pashtun descent) and was brought up in the city of Mumbai. She debuts in/as a lawyer named Naina in the award-winning feature film named Am I Next (releases in 2021) directed by an internationally acclaimed and award-winning Director Rahat Kazmi. Am I Next is making festival rounds and was awarded the best film award in IIFFBoston and Sweden Film Awards. In 2014, her first stage debut in Singapore was the play "The Arsonists," written by Max Frisch (1953) and directed by Susan Penrice Tyrie/presented by Hot Chocolate Theatre. Soon came the opportunity to perform at the esteemed Esplanade Theatre with HUM Theatre for " Nagamandala," directed by the veteran Daisy Irani. Her first screen appearance was a lead character as a taxi driver for "Sparsh," a European art-house short film directed by Dagomir Kaszlilowski. She later went on to work with Dag (Dagomir) in other short films, like Smoking Kills and Shoes. One other short film, Tasmim ( story set in the 1960s, life in Singapore before its separation from Malaysia), brought the much-needed attention to her versatility as Mariam, a simple Muslim-Tamil woman who lived her entire life waiting to be reunited with her husband's lost tomb. An emotional saga of her love for her husband. The script demanded, she spoke Tamil and English both. Lizard on the Wall in 2018, directed by K Rajagopal ( Cannes nominated film, "Yellow Bird" fame). Her trademark is her base, husky voice quality. She speaks English, Hindi, Urdu fluently, with an innate quality to pick u any language that may be required. She is the founder of Loop Pool Films, and co-produced Am I Next as its first independent film project.
